Drone GPR Essentials Course

Course Duration: 1 Day (9am – 5pm)

Location: JBUAS Test and Training Centre

Cost: Included in course prospectus on enquiry

Who should attend?

This course is ideal for anyone who wants to learn how geophysical sensor systems integrate with drones to collect high-quality data safely and efficiently. In particular, drone pilots, land surveyors, geospatial professionals, archaeologists, and infrastructure specialists will benefit from understanding how drone GPR can support their daily operations.

Is this course relevant for other payloads like magnetometers?

Absolutely. Although the course focuses on Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR), many of the principles apply to other geophysical payloads, including magnetometers, sonar systems, methane detectors, and environmental sensors. In fact, most payload solutions share the same core drone platforms, integration methods, mission-planning tools, and operational procedures.

Furthermore, due to popular demand, the course includes discussion of drone magnetometry and several of the fundamental principles behind airborne geophysical surveying.

Target sectors

This Drone GPR Essentials course offers valuable insights for professionals working in:

  • Construction
  • Utilities
  • Environment/Ecology
  • Land surveying
  • Archaeology
  • Quarries & Mining
  • Drone surveying

Course Learning Objectives

While these learning objectives focus on operating a drone GPR payload, the same integration and flight principles apply to many other geophysical sensors. Consequently, delegates will develop knowledge that supports a wide range of airborne surveying applications, including magnetometry, sonar, and methane detection.

By the end of the course, students will be able to:

  • Understand basic GPR terminology
  • Integrate a drone GPR system
  • Plan the route for a drone GPR survey
  • Fly a drone GPR survey safely
  • Download and process GPR data
  • Appreciate the value of drone GPR to their operation

UK CPD Service Accreditation

The UK CPD Certification Service fully endorses this course. Independent assessors have reviewed the course content and confirmed that it meets the standards required for Continuing Professional Development (CPD). As a result, delegates can claim CPD learning hours through the UK CPD Certification Scheme. Furthermore, the UK CPD Certification Service evaluates all approved learning activities against rigorous professional standards.

Course Purpose

The CPD Certification Scheme requires all accredited training programmes to deliver measurable learning outcomes. Therefore, JBUAS has designed this course specifically to achieve the learning objectives outlined above. At the end of the course, students complete an anonymous feedback survey. This feedback allows JBUAS to measure learning outcomes and continuously improve course content and delivery.

Course Test

We want every student to leave the course with a genuine sense of achievement. Therefore, all delegates complete a course assessment that reinforces learning and helps them measure how much knowledge they have retained. In addition, the assessment results help JBUAS identify opportunities to enhance training delivery and course materials, supporting our commitment to continuous improvement under the CPD accreditation framework.

Course Dates (2026)

During 2026, JBUAS plans to run the course on four separate dates, with one course delivered each quarter.
